CHILDBIRTH EDUCATION SERIES
I teach in the Birthing From Within style with a lot of more concrete information mixed in. I charge $200 a couple for a six-week session totaling 12 hours. If you are also my doula client, I will give you 50% off the cost of the class, so your cost would only be $100. My goal is to have at least three and up to six couples in each class. You may also bring your partner and/or any people who will be in the room during the birth, including non-pregnant friends and family members, maximum total two support people for each mother. Alternatively, you can come alone. If you would like private childbirth education covering the same 12 hours of material, I will charge $250 per couple for a full series, or we can do it hourly at $35 an hour (4 hours minimum).
Childbirth classes are not reimbursable by insurance.
DOULA SERVICES
I charge $700 a birth. My fees are negotiable and can go up and down depending on your income and what services you would like me to provide. Half is due at the time of contract and half at the postpartum visit a couple of weeks after the birth.These fees include (see my “services” page for more details):
- 3 Prenatal visits (one interview, one information gathering and one technique/educational)
- 1 visit with your care provider during your clinical visit toward the end of pregnancy if you wish
- Continuous support at the birth itself
- 2 Postpartum visits (one in the hospital and one a couple of weeks after the birth)
- Unlimited phone and email support
Doula services are just beginning to rarely be reimbursed by insurance companies. I do have an insurance code of my own that makes this more likely (doulas can apply for their own insurance codes as of this year); however it is still a long haul. If you are interested in self-submitting your doula fee to your insurance company, contact me and I will send along an invoice formatted for this purpose and a detailed checklist for you that should help.
ANOTHER OPTION – MY DOULA APPRENTICE
If I’m out of your price range, please still contact me! I have a mentor/apprentice relationship with a new doula – Melissa Reid at In Bloom Birth Support – and if you hire her, it most likely means that I will be at your birth (depending on logistics the moment of your birth), whether or not I was available for your birth. Also, there are many doulas in town at many different price levels and I would love to help you find the right doula for you – I’m friendly and I love to talk birth!
