The Birth Survey has local reviews up! Get — and give — valuable feedback!

The Birth Survey has reviews up area care providers nationally, including some of our local OBs and midwives!  This is invaluable information, and can be used by pregnant women to make a very important choice – that of their care provider.  I can’t stress enough how the choice of a caregiver in birth can change a birth experience.  It is so important to find one that aligns with your beliefs about birth, and to find someone who you feel professionally as well as personally comfortable – someone you can trust — and someone who will trust YOU.

1) If you are pregnant, you can use the info as one source to make an informed choice (don’t forget also to ask pointed questions to your care provider yourself!); or

2) if you have given birth in the last 3 years, whether you had a good or bad experience with your OB or midwife, take the survey!  It will pay it forward to many after you.

Oprah interview by Dr. Oz: Pam England, writer and creator of Birthing From Within

Pam England, the nurse-midwife who wrote “Birthing From Within” and the charismatic creator of Birthing From Within’s unique classes, was interviewed on Oprah Radio recently by Dr. Oz.  I have to say I was impressed with Dr. Oz’s eagerness to promote less interventive concepts in birth.  And I was even more impressed with Pam – it seems like she was gently reminding Dr. Oz and other listeners that issues in birth are more than political – they are emotional and individual and should be not assigned or assumed what is “best”, but chosen by the mother whenever possible and in a holistic way.

Washington legislature OKs civil right to breastfeed

Washington moms could gain a civil right to breast-feed in public under a bill approved by the state Legislature.

The Senate voted unanimously Tuesday for the bill, which would protect women from discrimination when they nurse in public places like movie theaters, parks, shopping malls and schools.

The measure now heads to Gov. Chris Gregoire for final approval.

Some 40 other states have laws protecting a mother’s right to breast-feed in public. And mothers in Washington are already protected from criminal indecency charges if they’re nursing.

If you’d like to see Gov. Gregoire sign this bill, you can let her know here.

Oh….and the pic?  Take that, Facebook :)
