ACOG says: give equal treatment to same-sex couples in OB/GYN care

I’m a long-time proponent of gay rights, and I was happy to see this announcement by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists today:

On January 23rd, The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) issued a position in full support of same-sex couples receiving the same federal and state legal protections enjoyed by heterosexual married couples. ACOG endorses equitable treatment for lesbian women and their families because it is important for both direct and indirect health care needs. Whether lesbian couples ultimately receive full legal protections through civil marriage, civil union, or domestic partnership is secondary to their gaining the same federal and state rights and protections automatically afforded married heterosexuals.

If you are a same-sex couple or a single pregnant lesbian and aren’t getting equal treatment from your obstetrician, you might want to print this out – the entire announcement can be found here.  And if you are looking for a doula or a childbirth educator understanding and accepting of all kinds of sexuality, contact me – I’d love to support you.

Class starting Sunday night, January 18th

I have a Birthing From Within class beginning on Sunday, January 18th.  The class will be 4 evenings, 3 hours each, for a total of 12 hours.  We’d love you to join us – contact me for more information!

My philosophy as a childbirth educator

I’ve been asked a lot over my experience about what Birthing From Within is, and what my philosphy is as a childbirth educator.  I just wrote something to someone in an email, and decided to post it to my site.  If you are curious about my classes, give this a read:

how are my classes different?

A new class will be starting very soon – in the next week or so.  If you’d like in on it, contact me as soon as you can: 4frenchs@charter.net.
